Stem cell therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that uses unspecialized cells to help repair tissues. Stem cells haven’t yet matured into true tissue cells, so they have the potential to turn into multiple different tissue types.
Stem cells are just one of several repair-supporting components in bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC). BMAC also contains anti-inflammatory cytokines (proteins that control inflammation) and growth factors that help with tissue growth and repair.
In BMAC stem cell therapy, BMAC is injected into the site of an orthopedic injury or condition. Dr. Stilp uses imaging guidance to guide the needle carefully into place during the procedure. The result is less inflammation, less pain, and swifter healing.
BMAC stem cells come from bone marrow, which is the spongy tissue inside the hard outer part of a bone. This tissue produces new bone cells, which is important because bone tissue is constantly breaking down and replacing itself. Stem cells and growth factors drive this process.
To get BMAC for your regenerative treatment at RISE, Dr. Stilp uses imaging guidance to extract bone marrow from your hip in a process called bone marrow aspiration. She uses a syringe to do this. Once she has a sample, she processes it to prepare it for injection.
BMAC stem cell therapy can be used for many orthopedic injuries and conditions that cause pain in the joints, spine, and soft tissues.
Sports injuries such as tendon tears, tendinitis, and bone fractures may all heal faster with help from BMAC stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy might help you avoid surgery and return to your typical level of activity faster.
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that affects joints you use a lot, such as your knees, ankles, or shoulders. BMAC can help reduce osteoarthritis pain so it doesn’t interfere with your lifestyle as much.
The discs in your spine absorb shock between the vertebrae (spine bones). Disc problems like degenerative disc disease can cause back pain as those discs break down.
